Sridevi made her Kannada debut as a child artiste in the 1974 Rajkumar-starrer Bhakta Kumbara . She later went on to act in a few more films in the language, including Priya , which was directed by acclaimed Tamil filmmaker S. P. Muthuraman. While she acted in only six Kannada films, her affection for the state and its people was always evident. Veteran filmmaker S. V. Rajendra Singh Babu noted, "She was younger to me by a year. But I was her fan... It is our pride that an actress from South India went on to become the No. 1 actress in Hindi films".
