Windows does not natively recognize a MediaTek chip running in its raw BROM state. When you connect a powered-off MTK phone to your PC, Windows will briefly detect it as an unknown device or assign it a generic driver, only to disconnect it a second later.

The software sees the COM port, but cannot authenticate with the hardware due to Secure Boot.

Once the software detects the device and the progress bar starts moving, you can release the volume buttons.
