the Canon Service Tool V.4906 ZIP folder on your Windows PC.

The printer whirred. A small mechanical grunt came from the plastic depths, and then—silence. The orange light vanished. A crisp, white page fed through, printing a single line: Counter Reset Success.

Resetting the digital counter tricks the printer into thinking the ink pads are brand new. However, the physical ink pads are still full of old liquid ink. If you reset your printer multiple times without replacing or cleaning the physical foam pads inside, ink will eventually leak out of the bottom of the printer and ruin your desk or flooring. Consider placing a tray under the printer or opening the casing to clean the pads manually if this is your second time resetting the machine.

If you try to open the service tool while the printer is in normal mode too many times, or if you use an incompatible software version, you risk locking the printer's EEPROM permanently. A locked EEPROM requires physical motherboard replacement.

Download the tool and extract the ZIP file using WinRAR or 7-Zip.
