The movie uses the elderly Dae-geun as a mirror to society. He is not a monster in a dark alley; he is a respected, dying patient in a sterile hospital room. He represents the quiet misogyny of a power structure that views women’s bodies as a transaction to be claimed. By having the resolution involve murder rather than escape, the screenplay argues that there is no clean way out of such exploitation. The protagonist does not "win." She simply does not lose her husband’s sight, at the cost of her humanity.
